IBM targets rapid-growth market segments with new initiatives
At the recent Business Partner Leadership Conference, IBM announced a series of new programs and incentives aimed at helping IBM Business Partners expand their reach by leveraging growth opportunities in existing and emerging markets that include key industry areas such as security, medical, health care, digital video and the life sciences.
PartnerWorld Web site streamlined for easier access to key resources
Based on research conducted with Business Partners, we are streamlining PartnerWorld resources and ways to view them on the Web site. To simplify access to high value benefits, they are now featured in a table in the Program Benefits section, and on the main page of each navigation category. In the Marketing area, all tools and information supporting campaigns are grouped together in one place. The Systems Sales site has been integrated into PartnerWorld, reducing the need for a second sign in. The product resource finder provides direct access to sales kits and resources for specific hardware and software products and solutions. And, the Selling section now provides a single point of access to opportunity management, pricing, ordering and reporting functions.

The Systems Sales Site has been integrated into PartnerWorld to provide a single point of access. You no longer need to log on a second time from PartnerWorld to access systems, server and storage information. At the IBM Business Partner Leadership Conference, IBM stated its intent to introduce an IBM Business Partner Specialty Program aligned to our New Enterprise Data Center Strategy. It builds on earlier specialties introduced by individual brand teams. IBM is also announcing enhancements to the IBM Business Partner Innovation Center program to align it with the IBM New Enterprise Data Center strategy and offerings.

IBM has acquired Telelogic AB. Telelogic, an IBM Company, will be integrated into the IBM Software Group as part of the Rational software division. IBM and Telelogic intend to deliver the most innovative and industry-focused systems development solutions, providing our clients and Business Partners high value capabilities to make them more efficient and competitive.

This acquisition creates expanded opportunities for Business Partners in technical systems development especially in industries like aerospace and defense, telecommunications, automotive. IBM Business Partners will find an expanded portfolio of products with which they can leverage their skills, value-add and customer relationships and an expanded network of Business Partners.

IBM garners six Channel Champion awards
IBM was named a 2008 CRN Channel Champion in six categories at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles, CA on March 6. The CRN Channel CRN Channel Champions study measures overall Solution Provider perceptions of vendor products and services. The survey is the largest and broadest-based technology integrator market study in the industry.

IBM is making a US$100M investment in the midmarket this year, and Channel Partners stand to gain much of the benefit. That's the message Rich Michos, vice president of worldwide Business Partner strategy for IBM, delivered during the IBM World Premier event at the XChange conference in Las Vegas. In 2008, IBM will be investing $100M in marketing, all in an effort to drive leads in the midmarket, the most rapidly growing sector of the IT space, Michos said.
