Installing the Microsoft Windows Loopback Adapter

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote provides directions for installing the Microsoft® Windows® Loopback Adapter on Windows 2000, XP and Server™ 2003 when using IBM® Rational® ClearCase® in a stand alone configuration.

Resolving The Problem

Installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, follow these instructions, respectively:

After the adapter is installed successfully, you can configure its options manually, as with any other adapter. However, if the TCP/IP properties are configured to use DHCP (the default), then the adapter will eventually use an autonet address, such as 169.254.x.x, because it is not actually connected to any physical media.

Note: The above directions do not include steps for uninstalling the Loopback Adapter.

The procedure for removing the Microsoft Loopback adapter on Windows XP has been documented in technote 1240069.

For additional assistance and/or more information specific to installing (or uninstalling) the Loopback Adapter on any Windows operating system, refer to the Microsoft Support Web Site.
