Problem
VTAM unexpectedly failed to issue "MSGIST1727I DNS NAME: dns_name" as part of the message group displayed when one of the following events occurred: 1. A DISPLAY ID command was entered for a TN3270-connected application, CDRSC, or LU resource. 2. A DISPLAY ID=ipaddress,IDTYPE=IPADDR command was entered when only one TN3270 client application, CDRSC, or LU is associated with the specified TN3270 client IP address. 3. A DISPLAY TSOUSER command was entered for a TN3270-connected application, CDRSC, or LU resource. 4. A session setup failed and the resource is a TN3270-connected application, CDRSC, or LU resource. The start option IPINFO=SENDALL is in effect.
Cause
When, in any of the above four cases, VTAM message IST1727I DNS NAME: dns_name is unexpectedly omitted from z/OS Communications Server SNA displays, the cause is that the Telnet profile was not correctly coded to allow for the display of the domain name server (DNS) name.
Resolving The Problem
To correctly code your Telnet profile to allow for the display of message IST1727I, do one of the following:
- Map objects with a host name by coding, in the BEGINVTAM block of your Telnet profile, an LUMAP statement that maps an LU name to a fictitious hostname (such as AA.AA). Even if the client host name is not a match on the LUMAP statement, the fact that an LUMAP statement is present causes the Telnet server to perform a DNS lookup operation to discover the host name.
