IY43766: AFS client crash on Solaris machine with OS kernel update patch 108528-20 (or equivalent for other Solaris releases) applied.

 

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • AFS client crash and forced reboot on Solaris machines with
    SunOS kernel update patch 108528-20 applied.

    The problem is caused by a system call to read_binding_file()
    with the incorrect number of parameters. The OS patch increased
    the number of required parameters from two to three.

Local fix

  • Back off the OS patch 108528-20 or apply the APAR.

Problem summary

  • AFS client crash at system start up on Solaris 8 with OS patch
    108528-20 applied. Forced reboot occurs

Problem conclusion

  • Problem is caused by a parmlist change introduced in the OS
    patch. Problem may be seen on other versions of the OS if
    identical function OS patches are applid.

Temporary fix

  • Apply the APAR

  • Installed on Solaris 8 box. Crash is gone and client apears to
    be functioning correctly.
