Missing lost+found directory

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote explains why some IBM® Rational® ClearCase® VOBs do not have a visible lost+found directory and explains where to locate the directory if unseen.

Resolving The Problem

Every VOB has a lost+found directory. It cannot be removed from the VOB.

Review technote 1120317 for more information about the lost+found directory.

ClearCase does however allow you to mv, ln, and rmname the lost+found directory.

The presumption is that you may want to hide the lost+found directory, or just simply rename it to better conform to your configuration.

In doing so, it may appear to some that the lost+found directory is missing.

The commands mv, ln, and rmname simply change the directory in which the lost+found is cataloged. The lost+found itself never disappears, and can always be accessed from the VOB root directory at /main/0 version. ClearCase does not allow the lost+found name to be changed in that version.
