Error description

  • After restart a CICS Region JVMServer start was successful,
    but immediately after restart a JVMServer dump was written.
    A Transaction dump for CJSR with an Abend AXMZ in Program
    DFHXMAB is issued, provoked by an ABEND422.

    The following is showed in Java stack:

    <72503100>      Method:
    com/ibm/cics/server/internal/ShutdownResponder.waitForECB()I
    !j9method
    0x00000000724FC898

    The problem occurs when the ShutdownResponder thread is delayed
    for any reason. It uses a variable to decide whether storage
    should be allocated this variable is a global variable and when
    the c code is linkedited together this becomes a shared
    variable between two C files. If the CICSThreadFactory executes
    before the ShutdownResponder then the storage is never
    allocated which leads to the GPF.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 422 abend caused in the *
    *                      ShutdownResponder during initialization *
    *                      of a JVMSERVER.                         *
    ****************************************************************
    During installation of a JVMSERVER resource a GPF error occurs
    within ShutdownResponder.waitForECB() because its work area has
    not been getmained. This causes an 0C4 abend, the JVM
    to crash and the JVMSERVER fails to start.

Problem conclusion

  • ShutdownResponder has been changed to ensure the storage is
    getmained in every instance.
