    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHLG0001 0C4 in DFHL2CHE during a cold *
    *                      start.                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    CICS was being cold started. CSXM was rebuilding UOWs from the
    system log that were awaiting a forget flow from a remote
    system. The UOWs' log chains were moved from DFHLOG to
    DFHSHUNT and a fork record written to DFHLOG. This logging,
    combined with a low AKPFREQ of 200, meant that CSXM attached
    a CSKP transaction to perform an activity keypoint while still
    initialising the recovery manager domain. This led to a race
    condition between CSXM and CSKP performing delete history
    calls - cold start tail deletion for CSXM and log tail deletion
    for CSKP. CSXM lost control having released the log block for
    the current browse operation, but before the read token being
    used for the browse was cleared from the class data used for
    browsing the primary logstream. This allowed CSKP to reference
    the read token and attempt to release the same block object,
    whose address was now null. CSKP attempted to update the use
    count value, but this resulted in a program check when CICS
    tried to modify low core storage.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS recovery manager has been changed to prevent activity
    keypoint operations being scheduled while still performing
    system log recovery during restart processing.
