Error description
After an upgrade to CICS 5.4, customer is getting abends related to their Liberty JVM. They deploy the applications by disabling the application bundle, discarding it and reinstalling it again. There, they get following error message: DFHSJ0001 An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at offset X'4EF2' in module DFHSJJS. In the trace, we can see that we fail on : SJ T800D XM 1102 XMAT EXIT TERMINATE_TRANSACTION/OK RET-AB64B4A0 14:58:23.2923232763 00.0000002998 =0327785 SJ T800D SJ 0B02 SJJS EXIT TERMINATE_TRANSACTION/OK RET-640FE763 14:58:23.2923234233 00.0000001469 =0327786 SJ T800D SJ 0B01 SJJS ENTRY SWITCH_PTHREAD_CONTEXT NEW_USERID() RET-640FE763 14:58:42.9728876308 19.6805642075*=0342967 SJ T800D SJ 0B05 SJJS *EXC* RECOVERY_ENTERED FUNCTION(SWITCH_PTHREAD_CONTEXT) NEW_USERID()

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C4 in DFHSJJS when processing a * * SWITCH_PTHREAD_CONTEXT call outside of * * a CICS task. * * * * ABEND AKEA in DFHSJIN during task * * termination of a Liberty task. * **************************************************************** CICS has a Liberty JVM server with the cicsts:link-1.0 feature active. At least one Link to Liberty application is installed. It is possible for Liberty to call the CICSThreadIdentityService outside of a CICS task. If this happens on a thread that previously ran a Link to Liberty request, then an abend 0C4 can occur in DFHSJJS FUNCTION(SWITCH_PTHREAD_CONTEXT). If a Link to Liberty task runs on a thread that was previously used for an internal Liberty function (e.g. config refresh) and the task uses DB2 then the following error is seen at task termination; "T2zos®T2zosCicsApi.checkApiStatus: Thread is not CICS-DB2 compatible: CICS_REGION_BUT_API_DISALLOWED" When the next Liberty task uses this thread an abend AKEA will occur in DFHSJIN when attempting to clean up the task state at the end of the task.
Problem conclusion
The CICS Link to Liberty code has been updated to correctly manage the state of the thread in these problem scenarios.
