  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When you are running a Java application and an abend happens at
the end, the CICS recovery environment which was added still
remains active. At this time there is nothing done to remove
    the extra recovery environment.
Each abend then leads to another ESTAEX call being issued. This
call creates an SCZB control block from LSQA storage and leads
    to the ABEND 878-10.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abend 878 due to buildup of SCB control *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When running a Java application in CICS and an abend of the
application occurs, because the eis_recovery_switch has been
set when in the JVM server and nothing will ever turn the switch
off, this leaves an extra CICS recovery environment in effect.
When the Java program has ended the T8 TCB it was running on
will be returned to the pool waiting for another request but now
has one more recovery enviroment than it should. This leads to a
build up of SCB control blocks in LSQA and eventually the
    abend878.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHABAB has been changed to ensure if it is a JVM server that
is abending it does not add an additional recovery environment.
