Error description

  • The customer has inadvertently turns on Event Capture which has
driven CEPD resulting in this overlay. DFHEPAS abends in
PAD_DATA routine attempting to pad a buffer with a special
    character X'5C' , C'*'. The dump shows a massive (2Mb) overlay
    of character '*'.

Local fix

  • stop event capture

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abend 0C4 in DFHEPAS caused by storage *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                            . *
    ****************************************************************
A codepath exists within DFHEPAS where routine format_data is
driven to pad a data area with asterisks (indicating that data
from EVENTS is UNAVAILABLE). However, the default length of the
area to pad is 256 bytes long. It is possible the pad length
can exceed this. When it does, the asterisk padding exceeds the
256 byte default length and can corrupt adjacent CICS control
blocks. Usually this manifests as an 0C4 in DFHEPAS but it is
possible the 0C4 may be reported in other CICS modules.

Comments

  • DFHEPAS has been modified to increase the pad buffer length when
it exceeds 256 bytes to the required length.
