Error description

  • CICS TS 4.1
DFHSM0133 CICS is under stress (short on storage above 16MB)
Analysis of the dump taken when DFHSM0133 was issued shows
the EUDSA and ESDSA are both marked SOS.
ESDSA has a large IE_BUFF subpool (id 84) size 125M.
The IE domain shows approx 1700 active conversations represented
bu IECSB control blocks with chained IE_BUFF and IECCB blocks.
The size of the IE_BUFF subpool contributes to the SOS in CICS.
    .
Looking at the Joblog for this region which has been running
for several months shows that there were around 1700 instances
of a connection timeout with CICS TG and messages:
DFHIE0998 Mirror transaction processing ECI request from TCP/IP
connected client has abended with AITH
DFHIE1105 Error attempting socket send to ECI client.
    .
After one of these abendAITH, the IECSB and its
IE_BUFF and IECCB are not being freemained causing the
IE_BUFF subpool in the CICS ESDSA to grow larger and larger.

    * tasks are active for the connection. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
A collection of CICS Transaction Gateway connected mirror tasks
are active in CICS. The CICS Transaction Gateway connection is
abnormally terminated. This causes a CIEP task to be attached.
This task detects that an error has occurred which drives
client_error processing in DFHIEIE. CIEP loops through the
IECCBs for the connected mirror tasks, attempting to send an
FMH7 to the remote client on behalf of the mirror tasks. It
getmains a temporary buffer to hold the FMH7 message. One of the
SENDs fails due to the state of the socket connection. DFHIEIE's
socket SEND logic raises an error and exits from DFHIEIE. This
causes FMH7 processing to be abandoned and the 33K temporary
buffer used for FMH7 processing is never freemained.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHIEIE has been changed so that if a socket SEND error
occurs in client_error processing, cleanup will continue which
ensures that the temporary 33K FMH7 buffer is freed.
