PI54032: LONG MAS CONNECT TIME FOR CICS REGIONS WHICH HAVE LARGE NUMBERS OF RESOURCES (PROGRAMS, TRANSACTIONS, ETC.)

APAR status

Error description

• You bring a CICS region up and it begins to connect to the CPSM
  CMAS. If the region has a large number of resources installed,
  the CPSM CONNECT  process may take longer than desired.
  .
  As an example, in a CICS region which had 100,000 programs
  defined to it in the DFHCSD at startup, internal testing showed
  49 seconds to complete the CONNECT process. The EYULOG in the
  CMAS showed the timing:

Problem summary

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: It may take a long time for a CMAS to   *
  *                      perform Topology Connect for a MAS if   *
  *                      the MAS has a large number of CICS      *
  *                      resources installed at the time of the  *
  *                      Connect process.                        *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF that resolves this    *
  *                 APAR, all CMASes must be restarted.  Note    *
  *                 that the restarts do not need to occur at    *
  *                 the same time.                               *
  ****************************************************************
  When a MAS connects to a CMAS, the MAS sends to the CMAS a list
  of all CICS resources installed in the MAS at that time.  The
  CMAS uses this list to build Topology resource maps for the MAS,
  that are used by the CMAS to determine where to send processing
  requests from the API or RTA.
  
  If the MAS has a large number of CICS resources installed, then
  the processing performed by the CMAS to build and store the
  resulting resource maps may take a long time to complete.  Until
  this completes, the Topology Connect process, and access to the
  MAS from the API, is held up.
  

Problem conclusion

• Method EYU0TSRA (TSRA), which runs in a CMAS to build and store
  the Topology resource maps for a MAS at MAS connect time, has
  been updated to optimize this process.
