Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHAK5802 activity keypoint abend after *
    * CICS journal open failure. *
    ****************************************************************
After an OPEN for DFHJ01A or DFHJ01B fails due to an abend or
an operator cancel request after message:

4933D EQUAL FILE ID IN VTOC

a program check such as a S0C6/AKEA occurs in module DFHJCP,
CICS produces message DFHAK5802 with an abend AK5802 and then
    terminates abnormally.

DFHJCOCP is performing the OPEN and has an ESTAEX exit to handle
any abend in order to pass an error back to the caller.
However, the ESTAEX exit looks for an OS/390 013 OPEN abend and
not the 2C5 abend that we get on VSE, and it exits the ESTAEX
exit without performing a SETRP to enable recovery. This
results in the DFHEVID0 subtask that performs the Journal
OPEN/CLOSE being canceled by VSE. The DFHJ01x DTF was not
opened and a subsequent POINTS macro issued a BAL to an offset
from location zero, which results in the program check in
DFHJCP. CICS cannot continue in this circumstance and
    terminates

Problem conclusion

  • DFHJCOCP has been changed to ensure that the error indicator is
passed back to the caller if it abends.

If the journal is defined as CRUCIAL, this will result in a
DB112 abend and CICS will terminate. Otherwise, the journal will
not be opened, message DFHJC4501 will be produced and CICS will
continue with the journal being unavailable.

DFHJCOCP will produce message DFHJC0005, and a PDUMP of the
SDWA control block passed to the ESTAEX exit will be produced
on SYSLST for IBM Service to review.

The IBMz/VSE Version 6 Release 1 Messages and Codes
Volume 3 SC34-2684-00 has been changed on page 155 to add
    a new message:

DFHJC0005 applid An abend has occurred in module DFHJCOCP,
diagnostic information has been written to
              SYSLST

Explanation: An abend has been detected during OPEN/CLOSE
processing for a CICS journal. A PDUMP of the SDWA for
the abend has been written to SYSLST.

System Action: If the journal is defined as CRUCIAL, CICS will
produce a DB112 abend and terminate. Otherwise, CICS may
produce a message such as DFHJC4501 or DFHJC4512 and continue
with the journal being not available for use, with journal
    requests receiving a NOTOPEN response.

User Response: If the reason for the OPEN/CLOSE failure can be
determined, ensure that any problem is resolved. Otherwise
    contact IBM Service.

If CICS continues, a journal not being available for use may
require CICS to be shut down.
