Error description

  • Migrating from CICS 2.3 to CICS 3.1, running the same workload,
you now experience Short On Storage below the line.
DFHSM0131 CICS is under stress (short on storage below
DFHSM0132 CICS is no longer short on storage below 16MB
Dumps at the time of the SOS appear to show more storage being
used in subpool KESTK24E. This apar is being taken to
    investigate this further.

    ****************************************************************
CICS is short on storage (SOS) below 16MB and MSGDFHSM0131 is
issued because the KESTK24E kernel stack extension subpool is
unexpectedly occupying a large percentage of the CDSA.
This subpool storage is needed for DFHAPIQX INQ_APPLICATION_DATA
calls which are being made from a GLUE.

In the definition of DFHAPIQ, SMODE is not specified so it
defaults to SMODE(24) causing stack storage to be obtained from
below the 16MB line. As there are many concurrent tasks
making the DFHAPIQX INQ_APPLICATION_DATA call this can lead to
below the line DSA storage being exhausted.

    Additional keywords: SM0131 MSGDFHSM0132 DFHSM0132 SM0132
                         Global User Exit

Problem conclusion

  • DFHAPIQ has been changed to add SMODE(31) to its definition.
This will cause stack storage to be obtained from above the 16MB
    line.
