Error description

  • converting programs from using HPJ to use JVM. excessive 24k
    blocks of amode 24re are being tied up. Commarea is being obtain
    ed as amode 24 when new commareas is required.
     When DFHPGLE decides to make a copy of the commarea, User24 is
    chosen when USER (AMODE 31) storage could have been selected.
    when the commareas are large this causes SOS(short on storage)
    condition.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Commareas for JVM programs are *
    *                      getmained from 24 bit storage.          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When a program is linked to with a commarea, CICS determines if
    a commarea copy is required. A copy is required if storage
    protection is active and the linked to program is in USER key
    while the commarea is in CICS key. A copy is also required if
    the program runs below the line and the commarea is above the
    line. The decision on whether the program runs below the line
    or not is determined by the entry point of the program held in
    loader domain. For a CICS JVM program this entry point is zero
    because loader domain does not load Java classes (that is
    handled entirely by the JVM). This causes DFHPGPG and DFHPGLE
    to decide that the JVM runs in 24 bit mode and to copy the
    commarea to 24 bit storage. The JVM runs in 31 bit mode so
    commareas should remain above the line.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHPGPG (for initial links), DFHPGLE (for links) and DFHPGXE
    (for XCTL) have been changed to handle CICS JVM programs as 31
    bit when determining if a commarea copy is required. If a copy
    is required then 31 bit storage will be chosen except for XCTL
    which always copies to 24 bit storage if a copy is required.
