PK15902: CICS LOGGER INTERFACE NEEDS TO ACCOMODATE RESOURCE MANAGER RETUR N AND REASON CODES

Error description

• z/OS Logger introduced a Resource Manager Interface that allows
  manipulation of IXGDELET calls. CICS needs to interrogate the
  new return and reason codes and put out appropriate messages
  when DFHLOG tail trim processing does not occur due to the
  Resoure Manager Interface. The following is a list of the new
  return and reason codes:

  CICS issues an IXGDELET call to the MVS Logger to partially
  delete log data. The Logger Resource Manager Interface
  can suppress deletions of the log data. However, the CICS Log
  Manager does not test for the MVS Logger reason codes that
  indicate this suppression has occurred. Instead, DFHLG0743 is
  issued to indicate that the log was successfully trimmed.
    The same situation can occur when a delete_all is performed
  to delete all the log data from the log. In this case, CICS
  still returns message DFHLG0744.

Problem conclusion

• The CICS Log Manager has been changed to recognize various
  reason codes returned from the MVS Logger RMI, and to issue a
  new message (DFHLG0789) instead of DFHLG0743 or DFHLG0744 to
  indicate the log stream data has not been deleted.
    The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V3.1 Messages and Codes
  manual (GC34-6442-01) will be updated as follows. The new
  message DFHLG0789 will be added into the section on DFHLG
  messages, after DFHLG0788:

            STREAM  LSN  DATA WAS SUPPRESSED BY THE LOGGER
            RESOURCE MANAGER INTERFACE. MVS LOGGER CODES:
             X'RET' ,  X'RSN' .
  
  EXPLANATION:  When the CICS Log Manager issued an IXGDELET
  request to delete data from the log stream, the Logger
  Resource Manager Interface suppressed the delete operation.
  
  SYSTEM ACTION:  An exception entry is made in the trace
  table.
  
  USER RESPONSE:  This may be expected behaviour. Check the
  status and settings of the Logger Resource Manager
  Interface, in relation to the meaning of the reason code
  from the IXGDELET request.
