Error description

  • When formatting a CICS system dump in IPCS with the DFHPD620
program, response time problems may occur if the AP=3 keyword is
used. This will happen if there are many transactions queued in
TCLASS / TRANSACTION CLASS waits when the dump was taken. The
DFHAPDUF routine along with other I/O format routines will
perform transaction browses. All the transactions are looked at
including the ones in TCLASS waits that will not be formatted in
the AP domain report. Eventually the report will complete if
the request is not timed out. Yet the time it takes to format
the AP domain report can be so excessive its prohibitive to run.

    ****************************************************************
DFHAPDUF has to browse the transactions in a CICS system dump as
part of its formatting work. This entails constructing three
lists of the transactions during the formatting of control
    blocks with AP=2 or 3.
In a dump with many tasks waiting to run in the CICS SYSTEM
(i.e. held back due to TCLASS or TRANCLASS limits) then these
can result in excessive CPU time and elapsed time when running
    the dump formatter.
Formatting with keyword AP=1 does not format the control
blocks and so does not expose this problem.
Keywords: DFHPD640 maxtask sysdump sdump VERBEXIT PERFM

Problem conclusion

  • DFHAPDUF has been changed to not format any transaction control
blocks for transactions with a TCA address of nulls.
