APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Trace shows the failing transaction is CMAM. Module DFHMAVCL
does a READ UPDATE INTO command against file DFHMALVA. This is
followed by a WRITE command for the same file, with no REWRITE
between the two. CICS detects SELF_DEADLOCK_DETECTED. AbendAFCG
is produced but the IVP has a HANDLE ABEND set to handle the
abend. The IVP continues to run and exercise other functions.
Only the Link3270 Bridge function fails.

Local fix

  • Code CILOCK=NO in the DFHSIT.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abend AFCG when running CMAM. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
In the reported problem the Installation Verification Program
(transaction CMAM) was being run to verify the LINK3270 adapter
in a CICS SFR region. The transaction abended AFCG (self
deadlock detected). This is because a path existed in DFHMAVCL
where file control requests for different records would occur
against the same CI. This only happens when CILOCK=YES is
    specified.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHMAVCL has been modified by the addition of an EXEC CICS
UNLOCK between the relevant file control requests.
