PK47039: AN ABEND 0C4 OCCURS IN DFHCDCON AT X'B6C'

Error description

• When trying to format a dump with DFHTT640 an abend 0C4 occurs
  in DFHCDCON at offset x'B6C'.  The 0C4 is occurring on an INSERT
  CHARACTER instruction:  43EF 7000 in the DECODE routine.  Reg7
  and RegF is used to address the byte but this results in an
  invalid address.

  As a side note, slipping on the 0C4 did not result in a dump
  because an ESPIE existed and handled the abend.

  VERBX DFHPD640 is used to obtain a formatted report of the
  internal trace table from an SVC dump, using the TR keyword.
  Processing does not complete but terminates with message
  DFHPD0123 indicating a program check during the processing of
  the TR keyword.
  
  Analysis of an SVC dump, obtained by SLIP TRAP, shows an abend
  occurring in DFHCDCON during the processing of a XMXE trace
  entry. The error occurred when attempting to locate a character
  string representing the meaning for a numeric REASON code. It
  was assumed that the numeric REASON code will be in the range 1
  to 128, this being the limits of tables used during the
  conversion process. This translation is conducted for ALL trace
  records, including trace records where REASON will not have been
  set. In these cases the REASON code may contain residual data
  with a value outside the assumed range of 1 to 128.
  
  In most cases the mis-translation that occurs will not be
  apparent to the user. However in the reported case the out of
  range REASON value caused the code to address data outside the
  scope of the program, into un-allocated storage. This led to the
  0C4 abend that terminated trace report generation.

Problem conclusion

• DFHCDCON processing for enumerator types, of which REASON is
  one, has been amended. When a value outside the allowed range is
  detected no translation will occur, instead spaces will be
  returned.
