PK48649: TASK SUSPENDS INDEFINTELY IN SYNCPOINT PROCESSING WITH HPO=YES

APAR status

Error description

• A task is suspended in ZCIOWAIT but is never resumed because
  it is under the L8 TCB and needs to be running under the QR
  TCB. This only occurs with HPO=YES.
  

Local fix

• Set HPO=NO.

  When CICS is using Web Services or Web Services Atomic
  Transactions (WS-AT) a CICS transaction may hang during
  syncpoint processing. This can occur during either the
  PREPARE, COMMIT, or BACKOUT stages.
  
  The hang occurs because the PIPELINE domain, which handles the
  Web Services and WS-AT workload calls Recovery Manager for
  syncpoint processing on an L8 TCB and not the QR. This causes
  problems because certain domains that can be called by RM for
  syncpoint processing assume they are being called on the QR.
  
  In this particular instance, with HPO=YES being set in the SIT,
  LU62 is driven for syncpoint processing. This calls DFHZHPSR.
  This in turn calls DFHHPSVC which assumes and relies on being on
  the QR. Because it is not on the QR it returns early and results
  in a suspend that never gets resumed.
  This leads to the task hanging in syncpoint.
  

Problem conclusion

• The PIPELINE domain has been modified to ensure that it switches
  to the QR TCB before calling RM for any syncpoint processing,
  and then switches back afterwards.
  

Temporary fix
