Error description

  • During file open, DFHFCNO makes a IGWARLS call to find
out the catalog recovery setting for the dataset. (This call
is for non-RLS files as well as RLS files.) It is possible
for this call to result in the TCB suspending on MVS ENQs and
    Catalog Locate SVC calls.
DFHFCNO makes the IGWARLS call on the QR TCB. It would be
more appropriate for DFHFCNO to switch to the FO TCB before
    making that call.

    ****************************************************************
DFHFCN file open logic issues an IGWARLS call to DFSMS. This may
be intercepted by vendor code, and this can result in delays due
to (e.g.) MVS WAITs or ENQs being issued, and the additional
pathlength being executed. Since the IGWARLS calls are issued
under the QR TCB, this can degrade transaction throughput and
affect response times while this TCB is unavailable to
    dispatch other work within CICS.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHFCN has been modified to switch to the FO TCB around the
    IGWARLS call to DFSMS.
