Error description

  • Run the trace formatter on the trace you captured. You may
notice that the MAL in the EXIT2 level trace is incomplete
(compare it to the one on the EXIT1). Also notice there is a
<continued> for the 'MAL' label. The MAL has been spread across
2 trace records. When the trace formatter gets a MAL, it expects
to get it all at once.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: EYU9XZUT (Format CPSM aux trace *
    * records) may produce incomplete output *
    * for MAL formatted trace entries. Part *
    * of the MAL may be formatted and part *
    * may be displayed in hexadecimal dump *
    * format preceded by MAL (Continued) *
    * for the 'MAL' label. *

    * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF that resolves this *
    * APAR, ensure that the STEPLIB in CPSM trace *

When EYU9XZUT processes a MAL trace record, it expects to get
the entire MAL record all at once. However, if the MAL has been
spread across 2 trace records, and the MAL is to be formatted, a
portion of the MAL will be displayed in hexadecimal dump format
and be similar in look to the following:

     MAL LEN:0000A5 ALET:00000000 ADDR:15C16A80

Problem conclusion

  • Changed EYU9XZUT to determine if the MAL has been spread across
2 trace records. The MAL will be saved in a work area and the
next record will be retrieved when it does span records.
