PK66118: HUNG AT SHUTDOWN BECAUSE OF A LOOP OF SENSE 08130000 RECEIVED FOR A FEPI SESSION REMAINING ACTIVE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Randomly shutdown does not complete because of a loop of sense
  08130000 received for a FEPI session that remains active.
  This look similar to PQ27456. In that case FEPI was accepting
  SDT when it had already issued an unconditional TERMSESS.
  PQ27456 doesn't help in this case because an RSHUTD has been
  issued (SZD_CD_TERM_C), and PQ27456 was specifically for
  unconditional TERMSESS. As well as SZD_CD_TERM_C, the FEPI
  connection has a desired status of RELEASED so CICS should
  not accept the SDT.

  An RSHUTD request is sent from a FEPI terminal to the IMS target
  system to request that it shuts down the session, FEPI
  connection flag SZD_CD_TERM_C is set to show the RSHUTD has been
  sent.
  The partner system would normally respond by sending an UNBIND
  request, but in this case IMS responds with a CLEAR and Start
  Data Traffic SDT, both of which are accepted by FEPI.
  On receipt of the positive response to SDT IMS sends DATA with
  BB (Implicit BID) which is rejected by the FEPI SLU2 Receive
  Data Processor DFHSZ2OD with SENSE0813 Bracket BID Reject
  because SZD_CD_TERM_C is set.
  IMS again sends CLEAR and SDT which are both accepted before it
  retries the data send with BB, which is again rejected SENSE
  0813. This loop of successful SDT followed by SENSE0813 is
  repeated indefinitely preventing CICS from shutting down.

Problem conclusion

• FEPI has been changed so that it will no longer accept a SDT
  request if SZD_CD_TERM_C is set for an SLU2 device.
