    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When opening an extended RLS ESDS file *
    * no error message is issued. *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When opening an extended non-RLS ESDS file error message
DFHFC0966 is issued. However this behaviour is not mirrored
by an extended RLS ESDS file. In this case the open is
successful but any following read request fails with an
ILLOGIC 110 due to a VSAM return code of 080068.

This is only an issue at releases prior to CICS TS V3.2 which
    supports extended ESDSs.

Comments

  • DFHFCRO has been altered to do a point to a file
during open processing. If the point fails with VSAM return code
080068 then new message DFHFC0509 will be issued and the open
    request will fail.

Version 3 Release 1, GC34-6426-06, Part 3: Getting ready to run
CICS, Chapter 29: Creating the CICS data sets needs to be
    altered.
In the bulleted list headed with the words "CICS supports access
to the following types of data sets:"; Change the last sentence
of the Entry-sequenced data set(ESDS) bullet to read
"Attempts to open data sets defined with the extended attribute
fail with error message DFHFC0966, codes 8504, 0008,0068 for
non-RLS access and DFHFC0509 for RLS access."

section VSAM data sets; Entry-sequenced data set (ESDS) needs to
    be altered.
Change the last sentence to read
"Attempts to open data sets defined with the extended attribute
fail with error message DFHFC0966, codes 8504, 0008,0068 for
non-RLS access and DFHFC0509 for RLS access."

The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS, CICS Messages and Codes,
    Version 3 Release 1, GC34-6442-04, Part 1: DFH messages,section
DFHFCxxxx messages needs to be altered.
Add in between the descriptions for messages DFHFC0508 and
    DFHFC0510 the following new message.
"DFHFC0509 applid RLS OPEN of file filename failed. This file is
an extended entry-sequenced data set (ESDS). The extended file
attribute is not supported in this release of CICS.

Explanation: While CICS was opening file filename, CICS received
a nonzero return code from VSAM while attempting to verify that
relative byte address (RBA) access is allowed. This failure
indicates that filename is an extended ESDS, which is not
supported at this release of CICS.

System Action: CICS continues processing with file filename
closed and its state UNENABLED. Any transaction that attempts to
use the ESDS RLS file is sent a NOTOPEN condition.

User Response: Redefine filename as a standard ESDS.

    Destination: Console

    Modules: DFHFCRO

    XMEOUT Parameters: applid, filename"
