Error description
Here is customer's environment: AOR ----MRO---------> TOR ---LU6.1-------> IMS function ship --> function ship --> STAR TRANSID(TRN1) PROTECT/NOCHECK DYNAMIC(YES) ROUTABLE(YES) ------> ATNI rc0C0B --------> DFS2042 An abend ATNI RC0C0B is detected on the region (TOR) that propag ate a START TRANSID(TRN1) to an IMS system. On IMS the start fails with error message DFS2042 due to an invalid FMH sent: Byte 5 of the FMH6 ,x'40' (FHMXRPLY), is rejected because not supported. Problem happens if the START issued into AOR region is PROTECT NOCHECK and the transaction (TRN1) is defined DYNAMIC(YES) and ROUTABLE(YES). No problem is found if the started transaction is statically defined into the AOR region .

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The PROTECT option on a START command * * is lost during function shipping to an * * IMS/DC region, leading to MSGDFS2042 * * due to an invalid FMH sent. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** An EXEC CICS START with options PROTECT and NOCHECK is function shipped from one CICS region to another CICS region over an MRO connection. It is then function shipped to an IMS region over an LU61 link. As the transaction is marked as DYNAMIC and ROUTABLE it uses the enhanced routing method for the START request. The START is incorrectly deferred (eiic_deferred_rout) and a CDFS transaction is attached to ship the request. The IMS start fails because no definite response (RQD2) has been requested. The PROTECT option should cause the request to be function shipped with RQD2, but because the START has been deferred the PROTECT option has not been propagated. Additional keywords: MSGDFS2042
Problem conclusion
DFHEIIC routine check_dynamic_start has been changed so that the PROTECT option does not automatically result in a deferred start.
