Error description

  • When using a non-terminal service flow with multiple terminal
    flows accessed, a thread is created for every transaction in
    the flow. This causes the cics region to fail.
    .
    The service flow has 10 screen transactions accessed. This 10
    plus the related transactions remain until the service flow is
    finished. For instance when executing 20 of the service flows
    there were over 200 threads created.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SFR 3.1's use of BTS can generate many *
    * tasks within CICS and lead to a MAXTASK *
    *                      condition being reached.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    SFR 3.1 can be inefficient in its exploration of BTS and
    underlying CICS task management. These inefficiencies have been
    addressed in SFR 3.2. However, SFR 3.2 will not run on CICS
    V3R1.
                                                                   .
    Currently, CICS 3.1 users wishing to run the SFR (Service Flow
    Runtime) are restricted in that they can only run the 3.1
    version of SFR. However, SFR 3.2 could run on CICS 3.1 if it
    were not prevented from doing so, (it checks the version and
    release of the CICS it is running on and will exit if it is not
    CICS 3.2 or higher).

Problem conclusion

  • The SFR 3.2 entry stub module DFHMADPL has been modified to
    allow SFR 3.2 to also run on CICS 3.1.
