Error description

  • Your CICS region comes down with a DFHTD0382 . Your CICS region
was in a loop doing WRITEQ-TD 's to an intrapartition transient
data queue. The DFHINTRA dataset is defined such that it is able
to extend to hold more than 2GB . Because of this, the loop of
WRITEQ-TDs eventually caused CICS to write more than 2GB to
DFHINTRA. When that happened CICS starts working with RBAs
greater than x'80000000' (2 Gig). CICS isn't designed to do
that and that caused the problem.
    Additional Symptoms: 2Gig 2GBs 2Gigs DFHTD0382 msgDFHTD0382
    WRITEQ TD 80000000 RBA

Local fix

  • Make sure that size of DFHINTRA does not exceed 2GB

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When writing to DFHINTRA, CICS *
    *                      encounters message DFHTD0382, which     *
    *                      results in a system outage.             *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
During normal operations, CICS formats the intrapartition
Transient Data dataset (DFHINTRA) when it starts for the first
time on a COLD or INITIAL start.
If enough data is written to this dataset such that a
Control Interval requires a high RBA greater than 2GB, CICS
issues message DFHTD0245, and the transaction abends.

The problem occurs when DFHINTRA has a primary extent which
    is already greater than 2GB.
CICS formats all the CIs in this dataset at startup.
When something later tries to write to a CI with
an RBA greater than 2GB (i.e. x'80000000'), the CICS system
abends. Message DFHTD0382 is visible on the joblog.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHTDRP has been changed such that if the primary DFHINTRA
partition is larger than 2GB, then high RBA will be capped such
that it cannot exceed x'80000000'. A new message, DFHTD0386,
will be issued on the joblog to inform the user that this has
    happened.

The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 3 Release 2
Messages and Codes manual (GC34-6827-02) will be updated in
Chapter 1 (DFH Messages, section DFHTDnnnn messages)
    after page 1002.
The new message, DFHTD0386, will be added after existing
    message DFHTD0385.

The information below is that displayed by the CMAC
    transaction for message DFHTD0386.

DFHTD0386 APPLID THE HIGH RBA VALUE OF THE
PRIMARY EXTENT FOR INTRAPARTITION DATA SET (DD
              NAME DDNAME) IS X'HIGHRBA'. THIS
EXCEEDS THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE VALUE OF 2GB, AND
WILL BE CAPPED TO A VALUE OF X'80000000' MINUS THE
CI SIZE OF THE DATA SET.

EXPLANATION: The high RBA value of the primary extent for
intrapartition data set (DD name ddname), is
X'highrba'. This exceeds the maximum allowable value
    of 2GB.

SYSTEM ACTION: CICS will cap the area that can be used to
a value of X'80000000' minus the CI size of the data set.

USER RESPONSE: Consider reducing the size of the primary
extent of the intrapartition data set.

NOTE: Do not attempt to reroute this message to a transient
    data queue.

    DESTINATION: Console

    MODULE: DFHTDRP

    XMEOUT PARAMETERS: applid, ddname,
