    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C1 in DFHIRP when the XCF Group *
    * Exit is driven with invalid user state *
    *                      data.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The XCF group exit (specified when the IXCJOIN command was
    issued to add this member to the XCF group) was driven to notify
    this system of a change in the operational state of a member of
    the XCF group.
    The group exit parameter list (IXCYGEPL) shows the previous
    state of the member, GEPLOLDS, was GEACTIVE, active. The new
    state of the member, GEPLNEWS, is GENOTDEF, not defined.
    The user state data which follows the GEPL contains residual
    data.. The group exit checks the validity of the state data by
    checking if the version number in the first byte (USTVER#) is as
    expected, '02'x. By chance USTVER# does contain '02'x so the
    group exit assumes the data is valid and checks the shutdown
    status in USTSTAT1. The shutdown status byte is invalid so an
    error branch is taken to IRGXMCED, where a program exception is
    forced, resulting in an ABEND0C1 and system dump.

Problem conclusion

  • The CICS XCF Group Exit has been changed to more rigorously
    check the validity of the user state data. A new check has been
    added for the Communications Protocol Number in field USTPRTCL.
    If the protocol number is anything other than one, PRTCL1, then
    the user state data is not valid and the group exit takes no
    further action.
