Error description

  • A user EJB transaction running, getmains are being issued over
    and over by DFHRZXM+x'436' UK44073 ( PK79893) with
REMARK(RZISRUEI) within the RZGENRAL CICS storage subpool.
Eventually, RZGENRAL contained 141868K, CICS reached the
EDSALIM and SOS message was issued :
DFHSM0133 applid CICS is under stress (short on storage above
    16MB).
Earlier, a CIRR attached the user EJB transaction which was
then delayed by a TCLASS limit. By the time the user transaction
got to run, the CIRR task had been purged from the system and
these factors lead to getmain loop.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHSM0133 is issued and CICS is short *
    * on storage above the line when CICS *
    *                      runs EJB method.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
A request to run an EJB method is received by CICS. The request
receiver task creates a request stream and attaches the
required request processor task. The newly attached task is
unable to run due to exceeding the MAXACTIVE value for the
    TRANCLASS it is part of.
The request receiver task is then purged by the operator. It
destroys the request stream and abends AII3.
A TRANCLASS slot then becomes free and the request processor
task is able to run. It attempts to receive the buffer of
data created by the request receiver task. Due to that task
no longer being in the system the multi task coordination
built in to the request streams domain fails to work correctly
and the new task enters a loop acquiring storage to receive its
initial data. This loop continually getmains RZISRUEI storage
from the RZGENRAL subpool in ECDSA.
The loop ends when CICS goes short on storage. The storage
used is all in the RZGENRAL domain subpool so will not be
freed and CICS has to be cancelled.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHIIRR has been changed to obtain an ENQ on a unique resource
to indicate that it is still active and able to process a
response from the attached request processor task.
The use of the ENQ is passed via requeststreams to the
newly attached task. The ENQ indicates to the request
processor task that the request receiver task is still
active and therefore its initial data is still available.
It has also been changed to issue a corresponding DEQUEUE.
