PM08928: DFHEX0001 - AN ABEND (CODE 04E/----) HAS OCCURRED IN MODULE DFHXCPRH FOLLOWED BY DFHEX0002 FOR DB2 SOFT CANCEL PROCESSING

Error description

• Your CICS EXCI transaction fails with DFHEX0001 An abend
  (code 04E/----) has occurred in module DFHXCPRH followed by
  DFHEX0002 A severe error (code X'0616') has occurred in module
  DFHXCPRH.  This occurs after migrating to DB2 Version 9 from
  DB2 Version 8.  The message is a result of a design enhancement
  within DB2 Version 9 soft cancel processing.
  The result is an ABEND04E with reason code 00E50013.  This
  abend is detected within DFHXCPRH and a system dump taken for
  further diagnostic purposes.
  In the customer's case, there are many (20) EXCI batch jobs
  running resulting in twenty system dumps.  The additional
  dump processing has a negative impact on system resources.
  DB2 currently suppresses the abend04E dump for reason
  code 00E50013.  The customer would like to see a feature
  added to CICS EXCI processing that would allow them to disable
  dumps for this specific situation.

  A Web transaction calls a DB2 stored procedure via DB2 connect.
  The DB2 stored procedure uses the CICS EXCI interface to invoke
  a CICS transaction.
  The CICS transaction uses the CICS/DB2 interface. One of the SQL
  statements fails with an SQL code of -904 (resource
  unavailable). The application attempts several retries of the
  SQL statement which all fail the same way. The 'resource
  unavailable' is caused by a batch job that is doing a load of a
  DB2 table.
  Meanwhile the DB2 connect determines that no response has been
  received for a specified period of time from the stored
  procedure and issues a SOFT CANCEL to clean up.
  A DB2 SOFT CANCEL results in an ABEND '04E' in DSNLILLM with
  reason '00E50013'. DB2 does not take a dump for the ABEND. The
  DB2 (Version 9) SOFT CANCEL also drives the DFHXCPRH (EXCI -
  Program Request Handler) ESTAE exit at label ESTAE000. Messages
  DFHEX0001, DFHEX0002 and DFHEX0004 are issued. The DFHEX0002
  message is accompanied by a system dump.
  The customer has twenty EXCI batch jobs that all suffer the same
  problem. The resultant multiple system dumps adversely impact
  system performance.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHXCPRH has been changed to suppress the system dump that
  accompanies message DFHEX0002 for ABEND code X'0004E000' and
  reason code X'00E50013'.
