Error description
Running DFHSTUP with EXTRACT USERPROGRAM=DFH0STXR and more than 250 applids abend4036 RC2 is returned by LE. The problem is that the CURRENT_NUM_APPLID which is addressed of the DFHSTUPANCHOR is greater than 250, infact it is x'FE'. So we have started trampling over the parmlist storage. The documentation indicates that DFHSTUP has a limit of applids of 250.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHSTUP may abend. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** This problem presents as an abend when running DFHSTUP and may occur if DFHSTUP is processing statistics for APPLIDs where the number of APPLIDs is in excess of 250. In the customers case, the user program DFH0STXR was being used to extract data from SMF records. When the number of applids exceeded 250, DFHSTUP started to write over the parameter list used by DFH0STXR.
Problem conclusion
DFHSTUP has been modified and is now able to process a maximum 520 applids. The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 4 Release 1 Supplementary Data Areas manual ( GC34-7015-00 ) will be updated. The STUCB Statistics Utility Program Anchor Block will have the following changes: After existing field DFHSTWRK_ERROR_FLAG, a new field is added and unused bits of the following reserved bits are changed. ..1. .... MSG_DFHST0236_ISSUED ...1 1111 The APPLID_SELECT field will now read: APPLID_SELECT(520) The APPLID_IGNORE field will now read: APPLID_IGNORE(520) The APPLID_STATS field will now read: APPLID_STATS(520) A new field of MAX_NUM_APPLIDS will be added after existing field 'DAILY' Len Type Value Name 0 Bit 1 DAILY 2 Decimal 520 MAX_NUM_APPLIDS The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 4 Release 1 Operations and Utilities Guide ( SC34-7002-00 ) will be updated. In the chapter titled Statistics Utility Program ( DFHSTUP ) subsection Control Parameters of the DFHSTUP program, the paragraphs detailing SELECT APPLID and IGNORE APPLID will have the 250 values changed to 520. In addition, the last sentence within SELECT APPLID will now read: If you do not code this parameter, the DFHSTUP program reports statistics for all applids found in the DFHSTATS data set, other than those APPLIDs specified on an IGNORE APPLID parameter upto a maximum of 520 APPLIDs. In addition, the last sentence within IGNORE APPLID will now read: If you do not code this parameter, the DFHSTUP program reports statistics for all APPLIDs found in the DFHSTATS data set, according to the SELECT APPLID parameter upto a maximum of 520 APPLIDs. The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 4 Release 1 Messages and Codes manual ( GC34-7035-00 ) will be updated by the addition of new message DFHST0236: DFHST0236 I DFHSTUP HAS REACHED ITS REPORTING LIMIT OF 520 APPLIDS, SUBSEQUENT APPLID REPORTING IS NOW SUPPRESSED. EXPLANATION: DFHSTUP has reached its limit of 520 for the number of applids it can produce a report for. Reports for subsequent applids are suppressed. SYSTEM ACTION: Processing continues. USER RESPONSE: Consider reducing the number of applids in the statistics data. DESTINATION: SYSPRINT MODULE: DFHSTOT
