Error description

  • If an application links to DFHEMTA with an inquire tsqueue or
tsqname and there are more the 32767 items an ATSD abend may
occur. After that, additional Inq TSQ requests will return with
    the ATSD abend.
A counter field in DFHEMT56 goes negative and overlays occur
when the TSQ Inquire parameter list is consecutively placed in
storage that already contains valid TSQ data. In this case the
TSQ Quick Cell Page Headers ( QPHs) were overlaid. The overlay
will statr on a byte boundary and look similar to this :
                 80128000 68BFF000 00004000
i.e., part of the eib function for the inquire TSQ request.

DFHEMTA is linked to for an inquire of temporary storage queues.
There are more than 32767 TS queues in the CICS system. REALLNUM
is a signed halfword used when iterating through the objects
being inquired upon within DFHEMT56. When this exceeds 32767,
the count becomes invalid. This results in an overlay of
the inquire TSQname parameter list onto storage that in this
case contains TSQ quickcell page headers. CICS issues message
DFHSM0102 A storage violation (code x'0F0C') has been detected
    by module DFHSMAR.
    Keywords: MSGDFHSM0102 SM0102 0102 programmable interface EMTA
              DFHEIN56

Problem conclusion

  • DFHEMT56 has been changed to cap the number of objects being
    inquired upon to 32766.
This PTF restricts CEMT and its programmable interface to
returning up to 32767 objects when inquire commands are
issued. The CICS inquire and set SPI is the strategic
mechanism for inquiring upon resources within CICS itself,
and should be used in preference to the programmable
    interface into CEMT.
Note that it is very atypical to have so many objects
within a CICS system, and to then inquire upon them
via CEMT or its programmable interface.
