Error description

  • You are getting an open error of DFHFC0500 RLS OPEN OF FILE
    nnnnnn FAILED. VSAM HAS RETURNED CODE X'0008' IN R15 AND
    REASON X'00CE'.
     The 08,CE indicates an attempt has been made to open a file
    using RLS, but the LOG value has not been specified on the
    catalog entry for the underlying dataset. The concern is when
    using the XFCSREQC exit with RLS the exit is acting like there
    is no open error.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: User exit XFCSREQC is passed UEFSNORM *
    * when there has been an open error *
    * for an RLS file. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When attempting to open an RLS file an open error is returned.
    If user exit XFCSREQC is active, it will be passed return
    code UEFSNORM in the UEPFSRSP parameter. It should be passed
    return code UEFSFAIL.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHFCFS has been altered to ensure that XFCSREQC is correctly
    passed return code UEFSFAIL, if an open error occurs for
    either a non-RLS or RLS file.
