Error description

  • You are using CICSPlex Optimized Workload Management and find
that your CICS regions are being incorrectly marked SOS (Short
On Storage) in the CPSM WUI views which show target regions.
There are no DFHSM0131 or DFHSM0133 messages in those CICS
region logs, nor are there any other indications that the
regions are under stress. If you turn off optimized workload
management in the CICS region, the SOS condition goes away.
    .
The problem only occurs if you have preset one of the sizes of
the CICS DSA's by using any of the following SIT parameters:
    .
    CDSASZE, ECDSASZE
    RDSASZE, ERDSASZE
    SDSASZE, ESDSASZE
    UDSASZE, EUDSASZE
    .
While a region is flagged as being SOS, CPSM Workload Management
algorithms are unlikely to route any new transactions to the
    CICS region.

Local fix

  • Turn off optimized workload management in the region or,
preferably, let CICS manage storage in the region dynamically
and do not pre-set the size of any of the CICS individual DSA's.

    ****************************************************************
If a user fixes a specific DSA size (for example by coding
UDSASZE=4M in the SIT) the STORAGE_NOTIFY calls to all the
domains, including the RS domain, include a parameter of
DSAS_CONSTRAINED(YES). A logic error in DFHRSSM (CICS RS Storage
Notify for region status) will cause the SOS_Timestamp to be
null, and the SOS flag to be turned on.

Problem conclusion

  • Module DFHRSSM (CICS RS Storage Notify for region status) was
    modified to correctly handle DSAS_CONSTRAINED(YES).
