PM43930: HUNG TASKS SUSPENDED ON RESOURCE TYPE/NAME XM_PAREN ....

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• CICS tasks hang and Dispatcher summary shows an undocumented
  Resource type/name 'XM-PAREN ....'. The suspending module is
  DFHXMRU whose DFHDSSRM macro indicates the Resource_type is
  XM-PARENT. The Resource_type is only an 8 character field so it
  is truncated to XM-PAREN. There's also a corresponding resource
  type of XM-CHILD which is also not documented. In addition, the
  Resource_name which is taken from xmcn_context.parent_taskno
  only displays as '....'.

  Note:
  The network UOW ID in the RM domain can be used to find the
  parent/child associations. The parent/child tasks will share the
  same network UOW ID.

  In dispatcher suspend trace entries and the dispatcher section
  of an svc dump resource types XM-PAREN and XM CHILD are not
  documented in the CICS Problem Determination Guide. The
  resource name is unprintable.
  

Problem conclusion

• Resource types XM-PAREN and XM CHILD changed to XMPARENT and
  XMCHILD respectively. The unprintable resource name is now
  an 8 character task number
  
  The CICS Transaction Server V4.1 Problem Determination Guide
  (GC34-7034-01) Section Dispatcher Waits has been updated to
  include the following resource type descriptions
  
  o  XMPARENT
  Resource XMPARENT
  This is a CICS Business Transaction Services parent transaction
  that is suspended waiting for an associated child transaction
  to resume it. The resource name is the task number of the child
  transaction
  
  
  o  XMCHILD
  Resource XMCHILD
  This is a CICS Business Transaction Services child transaction
  that is suspended waiting for it's parent transaction to resume
  it. The resource name is the task number of the parent
  transaction
  
  The CICS Transaction Server V4.1 Problem Determination Guide
  (GC34-7034-01) Section "The resources on which CICS system tasks
  can wait" has had the following rows added to the table
  DISPATCH    XMPARENT DFHXMRU SUSPEND CONV  User Dispatcher waits
  DISPATCH    XMPARENT DFHXMRU SUSPEND MISC  User Dispatcher waits
  DISPATCH    XMCHILD  DFHXMRU SUSPEND MISC  User Dispatcher waits
  
  The above changes also need to be made to the CICS Transaction
  Server 4.2 Problem determination Guide (GC34-7178-00)
