Error description
Tasks hang in FCFRWAIT 's. The problem occurs when a previous task is closing a file but abends due to a timeout or purge. Early in close processing, DFHFCFS turns on 'close in progress' flag (field FCTDSCLX ), then goes on to request an ENQUEUE on DFHFCN's entry point. If the task times out with an AKCS abend while waiting on that ENQUEUE, recovery processing does not turn the FCTDSCLX flag back off. So the task goes away leaving the FCT in a state of 'close in progress'. Subsequent tasks trying to access that file may hang in an FCFRWAIT while waiting for the file to close. But since there is no task currently closing the file, the tasks hang in these FCFRWAITs forever. . Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): KIXREVrer FCM_AND_FCN ENQUEUE FCTDSOPI FCTDSENI

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Tasks attempting to read a file are * * hanging in FCFRWAIT. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A task has attempted to close a file. During the close, an error has occurred, and left the file in a bad state. Specifically, the close in progress bit FCTDSCLX is left on. The file may also be disabled, but can be enabled again by the user. Subsequent attempts to read the file result in the reading tasks hanging on FCFRWAIT. Additional Keywords: AEXY
Problem conclusion
DFHFCFS has been corrected such that it will now always turn off the close in progress bit in the FCT entry of the file. This avoids the bad state which leads to the hang.
