Error description

  • The GRPLIST system initialization parameter specifies the names
of up to four lists of resource definition groups on the CICS
system definitions (CSD) file as it is written in the system
    definition guide.
If someone by error ( because he does not know this restriction)
defined a fifth list in the GRPLIST parameter, there is no
error message during the start of CICS . So the customer
searches why the resources in the fifth list are not installed
before to find there is this restriction.

When we assemble a SIT with five lists in GRPLIST, There is also
    no error message .

Local fix

  • To put only 4 lists in GRPLIST or to use generic name for the
    lists.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The system initialization parameter *
    * GRPLIST has been specified with more *
    * than four parameters, however *
    * everything from the fifth parameter *
    * onwards is ignored without warning. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
A user unknowingly specifies more than four lists in the CICS
GRPLIST SIT override startup parameter or when compiling a SIT.
CICS ignores all but the first four parameters, as a consequence
some resource definition groups are not loaded. The user is not
informed that some lists have been ignored.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHPASY has been modified to check for a fifth GRPLIST operand
and return a new response/reason combination if found. DFHPADM
checks for this new combination and if found issues a
    msgDFHPA1948 message.

DFHSIT has been modified such that if five or more GRPLIST
parameters are set an MNOTE with severity four is written to
    the message log.

The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 4 Release 1
Messages and Codes manual (GC34-7035-02) needs updating as
    follows:

     - Immediately after the entry for message DFHPA1947 insert
an entry for new message DFHPA1948 specified as follows:

DFHPA1948 APPLID MORE THAN FOUR PARAMETERS
SPECIFIED FOR SIT OVERRIDE GRPLIST. ADDITIONAL
              PARAMETERS ARE IGNORED.

    EXPLANATION:

The system initialization parameter GRPLIST has been specified
with more than the permitted four parameters and the
    PARMERR=ABEND option is not set.

    SYSTEM ACTION:

The additional parameter(s) are ignored and system
    initialization continues.

    USER RESPONSE:

Before you next initialize CICS, alter the GRPLIST system
initialization parameters so that a maximum of four resource
    definition groups are specified.
See the "CICS System Definition Guide" for further information.
