Error description

  • EYU9XDUT job spends huge amount of time after migrating to z/OS
    V1R12.In our case EYU9XDUT job finishes about 1 min on z/OS
    V1R10 but on z/OS V1R12 EYU9XDUT job does not finish even 3 hrs
    after. EYU9XDU1 always issues SNAP macro although SNAPDCB is not
    opened.On z/OS V1R12 or later SNAP routine checks DEB from
    DCBDEBA.Program check is raised if DCB is not open because of
    invalid DEB address(x'00404040'). Recovery processing takes
    place and it takes a long time.
    EYU9XDU1 should not issue SNAP macro if SNAPDCB is not opened.

    *                      finishes relatively quickly. On a       *
    *                      z/OS 1.12 system, the utility may       *
    * take many times longer, up to several *
    *                      hours.                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Rerun the EYU9XDUT utility using the module *
    * updated by this PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    In CSECT EYU9XDU1, a SNAP SVC may be issued to dump before and
    after record images. If the open for the target DD statement
    fails, the SNAP SVC is still issued. On z/OS 1.12 and higher
    systems, this causes additional recovery activity which
    increases runtime substantially.

Problem conclusion

  • EYU9XDU1 has been updated to bypass the SNAP SVC if open for
    the target DD statement has failed.

Temporary fix

  • FIX AVAILABLE BY PTF ONLY
