After running for a while, multiple DFHAP0001 program checks
(abend s0CC) occurred in CPSM environment. The abending task
    was as follows:

This task abended 0CC (Exponent-Overflow Exception) in EYU0WNAL
with the following psw and regs:

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: You are using CPSM's Workload Man- *
    * agement with the Goal algorithm in a *
    * large CICSplex spanning several LPARs. *
    * You receive repeated abend ASRA (S0CC, *
    * floating point overflow) in one or more *
    * routing regions. The abends occur in *
    *                      module EYU0WNAL (WNAL - Process WLM     *
    * Algorithm) at or near offset +7F2. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF that resolves this *
    * APAR, all MASes configured as WLM Routing *
    * Regions must be recycled to pick up the new *
    * code. Note that the MASes do not need to *
    * be brought down and restarted at the same *
    *                 time.                                        *
    ****************************************************************
When evaluating target regions for routing, module WNAL
loops through initialized WLM AOR Work Elements (WAOWs) cal-
culating the routing weight for each target region. When
using the Goal algorithm, targets are classified according to
whether they are considered best able to meet service goals,
executing in the best CEC, and executing in a CEC other than
the best. The base weight for targets not executing in the
best CEC is stored in floating-point register 6. After the
base weight is determined and a factor is applied for abend
compensation, the final weight is stored in the WLM Scope
Vector Element (WSVE) for the region as both a normalized
floating point value and as an integer. A logic error in the
conversion to integer resulted in the base weight for regions
not executing in the best CEC being overlaid. This value is
then used as the base weight for the next region in the WAOW
array and the process repeats. If enough target regions are
executing in CECs other than the best, the accumulated error
might result in an exponent overflow when applying the abend
compensation factor, or during the integer conversion.

Problem conclusion

  • Module EYU0WNAL was modified to avoid overlaying the base
weight for target regions not executing in the best CEC.
