PM63494: CICS CAN LOOP IN ABEND PROCESSING (DFHSRP) WHEN THE REGION IS SHORT OF MVS STORAGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• CICS is abending for an issue with MVS storage - ABENDAKEB/878.
  As part of abend processing it should issue message DFHSR0606
  and terminate. However, when issuing SR0606 it abends in DFHMEME
  before the code to terminate. This causes the CICS region to
  loop.

Problem summary

  *                      taking system dump for DFHME0138 when   *
  *                      WTO message to console meets MVS short  *
  *                      on storage error.                       *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  User CICS application triggers message written to MVS console.
  Meanwhile, user exit program XMEOUT is enabled at the same time.
  Module DFHMEME meets MVS short on storage when trying to send
  message to console thus calls DFHSUME to send error message.
  DFHSUME also meets MVS short on storage with error message
  DFHME0138 and takes system dump. CICS loops here in issuing
  abend 878 and taking system dump for DFHME0138.

Problem conclusion

• DFHSUME has been changed to move the action of taking system
  dump into an IF-branch so that no SDUMP will be taken for
  DFHME0138 if MVS short on storage is detected.
