Error description

  • You shut down a CICS MAS region at the same time you start up a
CMAS. Because of the way CPSM ships network topology around when
a CMAS is coming into the network, there is a situation where
some CMASes may incorrectly end up having MASDIR records
indicating that a MAS is active while other CMASes do not. The
MAS in this case is not actually active or connected to any CMAS
in the network. When the MAS does try to connect to one of the
CMASes that thinks it is already active, it will incorrectly
receive an EYUCL0107E message stating that the MAS is already
    active.

Local fix

  • Recycle the CMAS where the MAS in question last connected. This
should clear up residual MASDIR elements.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a MAS is terminating while a CMAS *
    * is connecting into the network, that *
    * CMAS and other CMASes in the network *
    * may attempt to Topology Join the MAS *
    * after it has already terminated. This *
    * will result in the MAS not being *
    * connected or joined to the CMASes when *
    *                      it is restarted.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF that resolves this *
    * APAR, all CMASes must be restarted. Note *
    * that the restarts do not need to occur at *
    *                 the same time.                               *
    ****************************************************************
When a MAS Topology Joins to a CMAS, the joining CMAS checks the
signatures of the CICS resource maps for the MAS. If the
signatures provided by the connecting CMAS do not match the
joining CMASes current signatures, then the joining CMAS sends
requests for methods EYU0TSLG (TSLG) and EYU0TSG2 (TSG2) to run
in the CMAS to which the MAS connected, to retrieve the latest
versions of the CICS resource maps for the MAS. If the MAS has
terminated by the time TSLG and TSG2, run the connecting CMAS
will fail the request. This failure will be returned to the
joining CMAS, which will fail the Topology Join.

However, if the signatures of the CICS resource maps match, the
joining CMAS does not send the TSLG and TSG2 requests, and as a
result, will not be alerted by the connecting CMAS that the MAS
    has already terminated.

Problem conclusion

  • Method EYU0TSMJ (TSMJ), which sends the TSLG and TSG2 requests
from the joining CMAS to the connecting CMAS, has been updated
to send a dummy TSLG request to the connecting CMAS if the CICS
resource maps for a MAS match. This will ensure that the
joining CMAS will be alerted if a MAS that it is trying to join
    is no longer active.
