Error description

  • Abend AKEC may occur in CICS system task CRST in program
DFHRSTP. CICS will attempt to issue message DFHRS0004. Since
message DFHRS0004 is not defined, CICS will issue message
DFHME0108 instead. The text of the message will be similar to

    ****************************************************************
The region status (RS) domain long running task, CRST, is posted
to update the RS block for a region, when a short-on-storage
(SOS) condition occurs, or if a SOS, TRANDUMP or SYSDUMP
condition ends. Program DFHRSTP, which runs as the processor
for CRST under the QR TCB, has a loop that is entered and
processed until the RS block is updated.

The flag that is currently used to enter and maintain the loop
for SOS start, is also used by other RS domain programs to
indicate that the RS block needs to be updated. If another task
running under the QR TCB is currently processing an update
request, but is suspended for file I/O to the coupling facility,
then if DFHRSTP gets control with the flag on, it will not be
able to turn off the flag because of the update being performed
by the suspended task. Instead it will loop under the QR TCB
until the ICVR value expires, at which point an abend AKEC will
    occur.

When a RS domain program encounters an AKEC abend, CICS will
attempt to issue message DFHRS0004. Since message DFHRS0004 is
not defined, CICS instead will issue message DFHME0108.

Problem conclusion

  • A new flag, SOS_HAS_STARTED, has been defined in the RS domain
anchor block. DFHRSTP has been updated to use the new flag to
enter and control processing of its loop. Module DFHRSSM, which
posts DFHRSTP to wake up when a SOS condition starts, has been
updated to turn on the new flag before posting DFHRSTP for the
SOS condition start. No other RS domain programs use this new
    flag.

Module DFHMERSE, has been updated to define message DFHRS0004.
The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 5 Release 1 CICS
Messages and Codes Vol 2, GC34286200, has been updated with
    the new message.
