PM83238: CMAS FAILS TO START WITH AN EYUXC0021S FOR TOTAL AUX LIMIT REACHED 13/02/20 PTF PEREMOVE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During an IPL of the CMAS, it shuts down due to the fact that
  either the "TOTAL" aux storage limit has been reached or the
  CMAS is using more than his share.  The following messages are
  issued in this CMAS:
  .
    EYUXC0021S applid Total auxiliary storage limit has been
      reached.
    EYUXC0024S applid The CMAS is terminating due to a previous
      error with the Cache component.
  .
  This results in a dump being taken out of EYU0XCCL for the
  XLEV task.  The CMAS trace contains the following exception
  trace entries:
  .
    xxxxx XCCL XCIN XLEV CHE Excp    112 AuxLimit CPSM
    xxxxx XCCL XCIN XLEV CHE Excp    114 AuxLimit CPSM
  .
  If the total amount of aux storage slots on the LPAR are
  less than the defaults, the CMAS would issue EYUXS0021S, take an
  SVCDUMP and terminate.  On the CHELIMT trace entry we see:
  .
    BLKS_REQ 00000800 (2048)
    AUX_TOTL 00000046 (70 %)
    AUX_CPSM 00000032 (50 %)
  .
  indicating that we were asking for x'800' blocks of additional
  auxiliary storage and AUX_CPSM and AUX_TOTL at their defaults
  values of 50%/70%.  The stack storage for XCCL gives what MVS
  Aux Storage Manager says was in use at the time, with the
  following fields of interest:

  * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF that resolves this    *
  *                 APAR, all CMASes and MASes must be recycled  *
  *                 to pick up the new code.  Note that regions  *
  *                 do not need to be brought down and restarted *
  *                 at the same time.                            *
  ****************************************************************
     A logic error in module EYU0XCCL caused the base register
  for the Auxiliary Storage Manager Vector Extension (ASMVX) to
  be set incorrectly.  This resulted in using incorrect values
  for FLASH EXPRESS memory capacity when calculating the amount
  of auxiliary storage available, or in the observed abend.
  

Problem conclusion

•    Module EYU0XCCL was modified to set the ASMVX base address
  correctly.
