Error description

  • You are migrating cics to V3.1 on one LPAR while another
LPAR within the CICSPlex has CICS's still at V2.2.
In last stage of migration step at of the first LPAR you start
    the CAS and CMAS.
    .
Note: Although the customer that reported this problem was
migrating to a new release of CICS TS, the act of migrating
is not the cause of the problem. The problem can occur in
any existing environment where a target region (AOR) is
shutdown within 60 seconds of a QUIESCE request being issued
    for that target.
    .
You start AORs first with an INITIAL start and then restarted
them as COLD. Their status in the WLMAWORK view shows them as
as being ACTIVE, as expected. Their status changes to 'QUIESING'
after starting TORs with an INITIAL start.
You then restart the AORs and their status becomes 'ACTIVE'.

This problem occurs IF a request is issued to quiesce a mas
AND the mas is shutdown within 60 seconds of the quiesce
request AND the workload is not installed in the cmas that
the mas is connected to AND the mas is restarted under the same
cmas AND a tor is now also started under that cmas so that the
    workload is now installed.

    ****************************************************************
When a QUIESCE request is issued for a CPSM WLM target region,
method EYU0WAUO (WAUO) runs in all CMASes that manage the
CICSplex that the target region is associated with. WAUO writes
a record for the target region to the quiescing target region
list, marks the target region as QUIESCING, and then starts
method EYU0WMQS (WMQS) under transaction WMQS. After starting,
WMQS goes into a 60 second delay. Upon awakening from the
original 60 second delay, WMQS performs processing based upon
whether or not the target region is part of a workload that is
    installed in the CMAS:

    - if the target region is part of a workload installed in the
CMAS, then WMQS checks to see if the target region has any
transaction affinities. If so, WMQS delays again for 60
seconds and retries. Once WMQS determines that the target
region no longer has affinities, it calls method EYU0WMQA
(WMQA) locally and in all other CMASes that manage the
CICSplex. WMQA marks the target region as QUIESCED, and
deletes the target region's entry in the quiescing target
region list. When the local execution of WMQA ends and
returns to WMQS, WMQS will determine that the quiescing
target list is empty, and it will terminate.

    - if the target region is not part of a workload installed in
the CMAS, then WMQS keeps delaying until the quiescing target
list is empty. Once the list is empty, presumably because a
CMAS in which the workload is installed has remotely executed
WMQA in the local CMAS, WMQS will terminate.

If the target region is terminated before the initial 60 second
delay, then method EYU0WMEV (WMEV), running in each CMAS, will
call method EYU0WMAT (WMAT) if the target region is part of a
workload installed in the CMAS. WMAT will delete the region's
entry in the quiescing target region list. If the target region
is not part of a workload installed in the CMAS, then WMEV will
not call WMAT, and instead, the region's entry in the quiescing
target region list will not be removed. If the target region is
restarted under the CMAS, and a subsequent routing region is
also started under the CMAS so that the workload is installed in
the CMAS, because the target region has an entry in the
quiescing target region list, the target region will be marked
as quiescing under the CMAS, and any routing regions connected
to the CMAS will not route to it.

Problem conclusion

  • WMEV has been updated to call method EYU0XCLR (XCLR) to remove
any entries for the MAS from the quiescing target region list if
the MAS is not known as a CPSM WLM target region to the CMAS.
Otherwise it will call WMAT which will call XCLR itself.
