Error description
JSP compilation attempt fails with NoClassDefFound for JDT compler "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.eclipse.jdt.interna l.compiler.env.ICompilationUnit"
Local fix
Use the JDK compiler instead of the JDT compiler. Use jsp config parameter useJDKCompiler=true for this switch
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application version 6.1 * * installations where the userid running * * the server does not have a valid home * * directory or does not have proper * * permissions to the default location where * * OSGi's instance data is to be written. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The default instance location for * * writing temporary OSGi data is invalid, * * not found or does not have the proper * * permissions. This causes the server to * * not start or other commands to fail. * * * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** OSGi 3.1.2 needs a writable area for instance data. The default is to create a workspace under the userid's homedir. Under certain circumstances the user id may not have a writable home dir OR the userid may fall back to use a generic temporary location to which it does not have the proper write permisions. This causes an error to occur when OSGi tries to create the directory or to write to it. This becomes more of a problem with the OSGi 3.2.1 release, as it looks for and tries to create this instance location much earlier.
Problem conclusion
Solution is to control the location of where the instance data for OSGi is to be written. All WebSphere Application Server commands using OSGi will now find or create a writable location, which OSGi can use for its instance location area. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 6.1.0.3.
