Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server versions 8.5.5 and 9.0. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a rollout update is initiated on * * an application through the admin * * console on a system with automatic * * node synchronization still enabled, * * an automatic synchronization may * * occur before it is being disabled and * * cause the application to be down. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** While running a rollout update through the admin console, a save may be performed before the node synchronization is disabled. The save may cause an automatic synchronization to happen between a deployment manager and its nodes when the synchronization interval is reached and before the node synchronization is disabled. Since the synchronization includes the changes from the application update operation, it causes an outage of a customer's application.
Problem conclusion
The code has been modified to allow the user to set the system property com.ibm.websphere.console.application.rolloutUpdate.disableAutoS ync on the deployment manager JVM which disables the node synchronization before the configuration save is performed. To enable the system property in Admin Console: System administration --> Deployment manager --> Java and Process Management --> Process definition --> Java Virtual Machine --> Custom properties Name : com.ibm.websphere.console.application.rolloutUpdate.disableAutoS ync Value : true The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpacks 8.5.5.15 and 9.0.0.10.
