Error description
A script is run that has the following Launcher: /apps/wsserver/InstallationManager/eclipse/IBMIM Command line arguments: -toolId ibmim -accessRights group -toolId imcl -accessRights group -silent updateAll -preferences com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.ssl.nonsecureMode=true,offer ing.service.repositories.areUsed=false,com.ibm.cic.common.core.p references.searchForUpdates=true,com.ibm.cic.common.core.prefere nces.preserveDownloadedArtifacts=false,com.ibm.cic.common.core.p references.keepFetchedFiles=false -repositories <path to 8.5.5.14 fixpack>,<path to an ifix>,<path to other repos> -acceptLicense -sP This is a rare case but the install code does not handle. In this case, Install of 8.5.5.14 does not upgrade the default java to 1.8. It remains 1.6. The overall install reports a successful installation of all updates. PI95973 was installed at the same time which caused the java issue. If installed separately the default java was upgraded to 1.8.
Local fix
Run updates as separate installs with, imcl install ......
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Installation Manager imcl updateAll * * command updates WAS to WAS 8.5.5.14 * * but it does not upgrade the default * * java to Java 8. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If users use an old version of Installation Manager then the imcl updateAll command will cause the Installation Manager to update both Installation Manager and installed WAS offerings. The WAS offerings currently check a key word in Installation Manager command line parameters to set Java 8. However, Installation Manager does not set the key word in this case.
Problem conclusion
The fix is to check the key word -silent instead. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.15. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
