Error description

  • Customer reports CSA shortage while running WebSphere
    Application Server z/OS 9.0.0.9

    Symptoms in SYSLOG show:

    *IRA101E CRITICAL SQA SHORTAGE
    BBOO0335E BPX1LDX LOAD OF bbodpcrt FAILED RC=84, REASON=BDF0624.

Review of an SVC dump taken at the time of the failure will show
that there are many getmains for BBODASRT data structures.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server for z/OS *
    * Daemon allocated unnecessary common *
    * storage for system down ENF. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Each Daemon listens for ENF signals to manage its routing to
servers contained within the cell that it belongs.
A cell can have members across a plex. When a system is
taken offline an ENF 35 signal is sent to each Daemon in the
plex. The action for this ENF is to clean up control structures
for any member of the cell that was running on that system.
In cases where the ENF 35 represented a system which did not
have any members in the current cell, the ENF exit allocates
common storage as if a member were to be added for that
system. This data structure has an eyecatcher of "BBODASRT"
and a structure size of x'00015408'.
When there are a large number of daemons in the
configuration, this can lead to a shortage of common storage
when a system is removed from the sysplex. The storage is not
necessary, since that system did not contain any members in
    the cell.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been modified in the processing of a system down ENF
to not create the BBODASRT structure.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.5.17 and 9.0.5.2. Please refer to the
