Error description

  • One or more Liberty servers abend with an ABENDSEC3
    RSN=20000800
    when when a Liberty server is forced down by a FORCE
    operator
    command, or using third party tooling. This condition occurs
    when a Liberty server is connected to an angel and where
    doing a
    FORCE (or worse) could cause the other Liberty servers which
    are
    connected to the same angel, to ABEND EC3 RSN 20000800.
    Liberty
    servers which are not connected to the same angel, or are
    connected to a different angel, are not affected. The angel
    must
    be running at the 19.0.0.3 or later level to have this
    problem.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Using the z/OS FORCE command to terminate a Liberty server may
    cause other servers registered to the same Angel to terminate
    with an ABENDSEC3 RSN=20000800. There is code in an address
    space level resmgr to cleanup for a terminating Liberty server.
    There are paths through this code that are shared with the
    cleanup for an Angel. If an Angel process is terminated with
    registered servers then the servers will be failed with the
    ABEND EC3 and reason=20000800. The shared resmgr routine fails
    to check that the terminating process is an Angel process before
    terminating the set of Liberty servers registered to the Angel
    that the target Liberty server is registered with.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been modified in the resmgr covering Liberty servers
    and Angel processes for address space termination to only
    terminate registered servers to the Angel if the Angel process
    is terminating.
