APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If you use hostname in the ORB IOR there would be error in ORB
    communication. The option is to add the function in Liberty to
    use hostname in the IOR so it could be resolved properly.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Provide an option to use hostname in *
    * Interoperable Object Reference (IOR) *
    *                      for RMI-IIOP communicaton               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    In a network environment where external network and intranet
    has different set of ip addresses assigned for a same server,
    an ORB request may fail due to ip address resolution.
    For example, a server is assigned with two addresses 172.x.y.z
    for external network, and 52.a.b.c for intranet with the same
    hostname such as "sampleHost.ibm.com", the ORB request
    to/from this server may fail because WebSphere's ORB requests
    use ip address in its IOR by default. Depending on where the
    request is handled, the ip address in the IOR may or may not
    be resolved by DNS.
    If IOR had hostname, it would have been resolved by both
    intranet and external network.

Problem conclusion

  • A custom property is introduced to make WebSphere use
    hostname in IOR instead of ip address.

    When the following custom property is set to true,
    com.ibm.websphere.security.ior.hostName
    WebSphere will set hostname in the IOR. The default value for
    this property is false.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.17 and 9.0.5.3. For more information, see 'Recommended
